Guwahati: In yet another case of bribe, Assam Police Vigilance and Anti Corruption sleuths on Friday apprehended an executive engineer (Irrigation) of Dudhnoi East Division, Goalpara, and a head assistant for taking a bribe of Rs 50,000.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Assam Special DGP Law, and Order GP Singh apprised the same.

"Akbar Ali, Executive Engineer (Irrigation)Dudhnoi East Division, Goalpara & co-accd Sri Jagadish Rabha, Head Assistant, both apprehended red-handed in a trap by @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while accepting INR 50,000 for flood damage renovation," Singh tweeted.

Meanwhile, the havoc created by landslides and floods due to heavy downpours is likely to continue further as Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted more rainfall over the next five days.

'State-wise Weather Warning for next 5 days over NE India,'' The RMC tweeted on Thursday.

As per the RMC, the northeast region will witness rain from 20th-23rd May 2022 and the minimum temperature from 20th to 25th May will be 23 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature will be 32 degrees celsius.

As incessant rain continues to wreak havoc in Assam and other parts of the northeastern region, more than 6 lakh people spanning 27 districts in the state have been displaced and their livelihoods have been shattered.

According to a bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the death toll in the state rose to 9 on May 18, with one person getting drowned in the floodwaters in the Darrang district.
